South Habersham Middle School eighth grade student Emily Pahuamba has been chosen for the 2018-2019 State Superintendent of Schools’ Student Advisory Council. Pahuamba applied to be on the council at the beginning of the school year and was chosen based on her responses to the application questions.

This council is made up of students in middle school and high school from across the state of Georgia. The purpose of the council is to discuss how decisions at the state level affect students directly. Members of the council meet three times throughout the school year and act as liaisons between the Georgia Department of Education and the students in Georgia. Some past topics discussed by the council are the school dropout rate, student leadership, communication/messaging, testing, and school climate. Pahuamba will have a direct impact on student education through her role on the council.
