The South Habersham Robotics program participates in the First Lego League, a worldwide organization that introduces young people to the fun and excitement of science & technology.  On Saturday, December 6, the SHMS Robotics team traveled to Athens Academy to compete in the Northeast Georgia FLL Regional Event.  This year, SHMS Robotics has two teams of eighth grade students that will compete in the 2014 World Class: Learning Unleashed Challenge. Teams will teach adults about the ways that kids need and want to learn. This year's challenge has three parts: the Robot Game, the Project, and the FLL Core Values. In the Robot Game, teams build & program an autonomous robot to score points on a themed playing field.  The project consists of developing a solution to a problem they have identified that is related to the theme.  And all of the team's work is guided by the FLL Core Values.  FLL teams are actively learning about how people learn and the best way to engage others in the learning process. What is the future of learning? SHMS Robotics teams are in search of the answers.

The SHMS Fashionettes team is comprised of seven female eighth grade students most of whom are participating in their second year of FLL. The team is learning about fashion design & fashion marketing and has started many new initiatives at SHMS related to learning about fashion design. Team Members pictured include: (front row) Nevaja Brown, Mya Sedwick, Stefania Camacho, Estrella Perez, (back row) Alexis Canup, Coraima Morales, and Giselle Garcia.  The SHMS Fashionettes were awarded the 3rd place Champions Award at the event.  The Champions Award recognizes a team that embodies the FLL experience, by fully embracing our Core Values while achieving excellence and innovation in both the Robot Game and Project.  The girls have advanced to the Northeast Georgia Super Regional in January.

Team Alpha Robotics is made up of nine eighth grade male students. The team is focusing their research efforts on coding & app development. Team members pictured include: (front row) Alec Lewis, Alejandro Medina, Souliya Chittarath, Cristian Paramo, (back row) Austin Savage, Octavio Garcia, Nolberto Chastain, Drake Rattanaxay, and Justin Williams.  The team demonstrated excellence in the Robot Game at the tournament by finishing as runner-up by scoring the second highest total points for the competition.  They were also awarded the Mechanical Design Award which recognizes a team that designs and develops a mechanically sound robot that is durable, efficient, and highly capable of performing challenge missions.
