I was born and raised in a small town in Northwest Alabama and graduated from Winfield City High School in 1998.  After high school, I attended Lee University in Cleveland, TN, and earned a Bachelors in Sociology.  After a few years teaching kindergarten at Westminster Christian School in Gainesville, GA, I decided to pursue a Masters in Elementary Education from the University of Phoenix.  During this time I taught 1st and 2nd grade at Demorest Elementary. After spending a year and a half at home following the birth of my son, I accepted a ELA teaching position at SHMS.  Learning should never cease, however, so in 2011 I continued my educational experience as a student through earning with my Specialist in Education, Curriculum and Iinstruction/Exemplary Teaching through the University of Valdosta.  Since coming to South, I have taught 7th grade ELA, 6th Grade Reading and ELA, and 6th Grade Social Studies.  2014 brought another year of "firsts", as I began teaching teaching 6th, 7th, and 8th Jr Honors Reading/ELA and Advanced classes.  In 2016, I had the privilege of being one of three teachers in the county to pilot the first 9th Grade Honors Literature classes taught to 8th grade students for high school credit. Thus far, my teaching career has been a wonderful time of learning, growth, and enjoyment of sharing with my students.  The future in education is bright, and I'm so excited to share it now with your students!

My sweetheart of a husband, Scott Smith, and I have been married for 15 years. We have two children, Kaden and Emma Kate.  When I'm not a school, I enjoy assisting my husband as Associate Pastor of The Torch Worship Center, watching my son play ball, and playing dress-up with my sweet princess. :-)
