Welcome to 6th Math! In 6th Grade Math, instructional time will focus on four critical areas: (1) connecting ratio and rate to whole number multiplication and division and using concepts of ratio and rate to solve problems; (2) completing our understanding of division of fractions and extending the notion of numbers to the system of rational numbers, which includes negative numbers; (3) writing, interpreting, and using expressions and equations; and (4) developing an understanding of statistical thinking. Based on the Georgia Department of Education's Instructional Framework our seven units of study are:

1.     Number System Fluency

2.     Rate, Ratio and Proportional Reasoning Using Equivalent Fractions

3.     Numeric and Algebraic Expressions

4.     One-Step Equations and Inequalities

5.     Area and Volume

6.     Statistics

7.     Rational Explorations; Numbers and Their Opposites

Go to my links on this site to view a copy of each unit on the GaDOE website. From this site you will be able to download documents that contain vocabulary and tasks being completed in the classroom for each unit.

I use the following SHMS grading policy in 6th Grade Math:

Formative Assignments: 50% of the final grade (Classwork, quizzes, daily grades)

Summative Assignments: 50% of the final grade (Tests, quizzes, projects, presentations)
